Joining a JASO committee is a great way to become involved in the Society! Committee members help JASO staff design and implement monthly programs and it is also a wonderful way to meet other JASO members.

There are 10 committees which work with the Society's staff to design and help implement JASO's programs and public information materials. The committees and their objectives are as follows.

Annual Events Committee
(three sub-committees)

Annual Dinner Committee
Identifies and helps contact a high-level speaker for the Annual Dinner and develops and implements the annual awards process with awards to be presented during the dinner. The Chair of the committee serves as the Master of Ceremonies at the Annual Dinner.

Annual Golf Committee
Plans and implements the Annual Golf Scramble (Endowment Challenge) and the Annual Golf Tournament.

Special Event Committee
Plans and implements an annual fundraising event for the JASO Endowment.

Membership Committee

Public Affairs Committee
Develops and implements an effective public relations strategy to assist the Society in becoming more visible in the community and to increase public awareness of JASO's programs and mission.

Tomodachi Committee
Functions as the hospitality arm for the Society, providing incoming Japanese and American families with support and friendship. Develops and implements a variety of programs that promote interaction, cultural exchange and awareness between members.

New Professionals Network (NPN) Committee
The New Professionals Network (NPN) is a resource for recent graduates, new residents to the Portland community, new entrants to the workforce, and professionals in transition, all of whom also have a passion for Japan-America relations and all things international. Through regular Sunday Brunches, guest speaking engagements, and a unique and focused mentoring program, the NPN offers a vibrant and supportive base for people who are in transition as well as people who share a common interest in Japan and business.

NPN Mentorship Program
This program is meant to help further the professional development of JASO members. The idea is to provide an avenue for our members to seek advice or learn more about a specific field or area of interest. This program pairs mentee candidates with members matching those descriptions. Ideally, apart from the nine month time commitment, mentors and mentees will define the nature of their relationship.
